Thermal treatment facilities

Our technology

We specialise in the treatment and disposal of healthcare and industrial risk waste through Electro-Thermal Deactivation (ETD) or incineration. These methods of waste disposal are called ‘Thermal Treatment’ and are highly effective in both reducing risks and diverting waste from landfill.

Thermal Treatment Methods

  • Secure destruction

Our thermal treatment facilities focus on secure destruction ensuring that your waste does not end up in the wrong hands, giving you peace of mind.

  • National network

Whether you are running a national corporation or a rural business, we’re strategically located in all major centres and have an infrastructural network that spans the entire country, ensuring we can service any facility.

  • Tracking and control

Through our tracking system, waste asset owners are able to improve security, staff productivity, associated business processes and customer care.

  • Quality products and skills

We use top-of-the-range certified waste receptacles to ensure that your waste is safely contained, easy to transport and easy to identify as hazardous or non-hazardous waste.

Averda South Africa proudly owns four thermal treatment facilities in the country; two ETDs and two incinerators. Infectious and sharps waste gets delivered to our ETDs where it is treated to render it harmless to environmental and human safety and therefore safe for landfill disposal. All other waste categories, from anatomical waste through to unrecyclable materials, are sent to our incinerators and burned at temperatures of 900C, reducing the volume by 85% in the form of ‘incinerator ash’, which is then safely disposed of at Vlakfontein, an Averda-owned hazardous waste landfill.
